Puppet kingdom final version

Here is the final version of my flash game, since the last version i uploaded i've added new pages for the colouring print offs where when you click the little pictures they come up big for you to see. Overall in this process I think i've learned alot of new skills which i've included into my game, i've had to counter alot of obstacles on the way to the finished game, but i've managed to overcome them with research and perseverance. What I like about my game is how i've managed to create three completely different games which use different coding and tactics to make them work, alot of the ways in which things work in my game i've came up with them myself, only a few parts of coding i've had to look up elsewhere, such as the eggs falling, which took a few lessons to find coding that worked, and i also had to edit it to work with the coding I was already using to animate the characters. I also like the way you select the game, being able to move the character indipendantly through the different screens to show the animations which shortly remind the player what the story of that spefic game is about. I've had feedback throughout the process of making my game when people have tested it which has helped me, such as someone saying they expected the printout pictures coming up big when you click on them; this I then went to add and I think it turned out well. If i had to go back an do this process over again, I think I would have to research more in depth with each game i've wanted to create, and consider how I can make them more advanced and challenging, which would make them more enjoyable to play; I would also like to have more time to create my game, so I could actually advance alot of the gameplay, or add more aspects into the game like interactive comics and more games to play; also adding a highscore feature so it remembers what you're highest score is. I may have also done more initial research so I couldve came up with other ideas for a game, which could have been better to create and have a better outcome. In conclusion to this and my whole game, I am really happy with the outcome that I have achieved and I think that I've worked well through the whole process in designing and developing the game; It's a colourful, happy and entertaining game which I think definitely works for the targeted audience, and I could see this game being introduced onto a childrens website such as cbbies as a fun and helpful game for young learning.

My final project game at finished standards

Here is my puppet kingdom game which I consider to be practically finished, i've gone through and added sounds in all the right places, now i think all i could do to improve would maybe add a pause button, which i havnt been able to work out how to do yet, and improve on the games themselfs. i'm also considering adding comic strips to each game, which would add an extra thing to keep children wanting to play on it, I would like to have parts of these comics animated, it would also be nice to have turning the pages in an interactive way, but i feel i've put alot of time into this game already and i dont think i have enough time to keep adding more to the game.

Sound progression

At the moment i am working on the sound within my game, I am using a website called Freesound.org which has alot of free sounds that people record and upload which you can use for yourself, I have also tried using other sites like soundcloud, and i've found a song from newgrounds.com to play throughout my game. I've been spending alot of time researching through the different sites, also going on the childrens games to see what sort of music that they include on there.
I finally managed to find quite a happy song, and i think it suites my game because of how its puppetry, and based on fairytales.

I have also been using audacity to edit some sounds that I download, making them short enough for my animations and taking out parts which i dont need. I'm trying to think of what sounds I can search for which work well with what i'm trying to bring to life.

screenshots to print off

These are just screenshots of the making of my game, they show diferent stages in the making of the game and some coding of how things work, I will use some of these within my design book.

Colouring pages research

Here i found a site which whole purpose is for children to print out colouring pages which they can just colour in, they have a variety of different pictures you could colour in, here i found a whole sheet of different pages for the three little pigs; In my recent post was a test for a printing idea i had, and this actually worked really well, so I'm going to create this and i think it will add a unique addition to the game.

Children game research

Here is a game on the website Cbeebies which is for young children.
The games on here are really simply drawn, and the games are very basic, which is why i think my gamew ould be good to aim for young children, it will also be better to aim for one age group instead of trying to provide for all age ranges, although i think with more advanced games that my game would be good for a phone app like games such as angry birds.

On the top left you can see a print button, which lets the player print off the screen, which i think kids would really like to do if they feel they've achieved somethign in the game; I think it would be a good idea to have printable things with my game, it'll also add more for children to do.

The music and sounds in the games for children allways seem really loud and over exagerated, they also compliment the inviting graphics and oclours, which I think would entertain children well. They usually have people talking over the top of the game instructing what to do, i think this is a good idea because alot of children wouldnt be able to read yet.

3 games finished update.

In this update of my game I have finished all three games to a decent standard, i think they're all decent games, but I could improve on them and make them more challenging and engaging, but with the games, especially the egg falling one, the coding was quite complicated and I havnt been able to find the coding i would like to use to improve the game(adding different falling eggs). I'm now going to move onto finishing off the game, maybe adding more buttons if i can, such as a pause screen, although in a previous blog entry i found coding for this, I tried it out and it didn't seem to work for me. I'm also going to try and add a bit of sound, this will make the game more engaging and entertaining; especially if i direct this game towards a young age group; I will research on the types of sound and music that are included in childrens games, and also what games they prefer. I was thinking also to add comic strips for each story, and also a print out and colouring in picture, which i think would be a really good idea because I've seen games before from research where they have printoffs, which children enjoy colouring in.
